Carmela Scarcella, born in Brooklyn, NY to Anthony and Mary Villante, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2008. A resident of Gilroy for 35 years. She was 94 years old. Carmela came to California in 1955 with her husband Nunzio, who was a Sergeant First Class in the Army stationed at Ft. Ord. She held the position of Chief Telephone Operator at Ft. Ord for 18 years until her retirement in 1973. During that time , she received several awards and citations for her exceptional organizational and management skills.

Mrs. Scarcella is survived by her son, James of Gilroy, daughter, Christine of Bethalto, Illinois, and daughter Mary of Hilton Head, South Carolina. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and twenty-two great- grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 7, 2008 at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. Carmela will be buried at St. Mary Cemetery next to her husband Nunzio, to whom she was married for 69 years.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Village Green for their loving care.
