Carmen C. Soza died Sunday, Dec. 14. She was 81.

She was born in San Antonio, Texas and moved to Gilroy where she farmed. She retired in 1985 and moved to Hollister where she spent many hours in her garden caring for her plants and birds.

She had lived in Gilroy and San Martin for many years and in Hollister was a member of Sacred Heart Church. She enjoyed visiting with her family, trips to Reno and Tahoe and her Wednesday night prayer group.

She is survived by her children Juan Soza of Gilroy, Ezequiel Soza Jr. of San Jose, Dina Zamarron of Hollister, Joe Soza of Gilroy, Phil Soza of Roseville, Raul Soza of Hollister, Elias Soza of Stockton, Mary Armedariz of Stockton, Olivia Mendiola of San Jose, Al Soza of Chicago, Gilbert Soza of Hollister, Lidia Compton of Hollister and Art Soza of Hollister; and her brother and sisters Jose Castanedo of Del Rio, Texas, Maria Barrios of San Jose and Tomasa Govea of Del Rio. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ezequiel who died in 1995.

Friends can pay their respects Thursday, Dec. 18 from 2 to 9 p.m. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. The Rosary will be at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Friends may gather at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. for a procession to the church.

Interment and graveside services will follow the Mass at IOOF Cemetery.

Donations may be made to St. Benedicts Church or Hazel Hawkins Hospital.
