Former San Juan Bautista resident
Former San Juan Bautista resident Cayetano J. DeAnda died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003 at his home in Madera. He was 84.

Mr. DeAnda was born in Atoltonico, Jalisco, Mexico and came to San Juan Bautista as a field worker in 1944. In 1947 he moved to New Mexico where he met his wife-to-be, Ramona. They were married in Grants, N.M. and returned in 1950 to San Juan Bautista where he worked at the Ideal Cement Plant and Freitas Farms, and also as a sharecropper. He raised 18 children and many grandchildren, was a member of the Associacion De Los Charros Del Norte and enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Ramona DeAnda of Madera; his children, Lisa Lechuga of Hollister, Rosie DeAnda Cortez of San Juan Bautista, Efren DeAnda of Gilroy, Jesse DeAnda, Johnny DeAnda, Ramona Aquino, Trinidad DeAnda and Lorraine DeAnda, all of Madera, Margie Rubio of Salinas, Anna DeAnda of San Jose, Cayetano DeAnda Jr. of Fremont, Patricia Pasillas of Fresno, Tony DeAnda of Tracy and Pauline DeAnda of Mexicali, Mexico; his brother, Jesus DeAnda of Riverside; and many grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four children.

Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mass will be offered Saturday, Feb. 15 at 11:30 a.m. at Mission San Juan Bautista. Friends can gather at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. for a procession to the mission. Interment will be at San Juan District Cemetery.
