Sophia Esparza, a 7-year-old student from Cerra Vista School, is competing in the Miss Jr. Pre-Teen Oakland/San Jose Pageant Competition on April 6 in San Francisco. She needs community businesses, organizations and private donors to become official sponsors in order to participate in the pageant.
The sponsorship covers the cost of training, rehearsals and financial support as she prepares for the competition.
Esparaza is a second-grader who receives good grades and participates in the Hollister Tremors soccer league. She also likes going to Hollister Hills to ride dirt bikes and quads with her siblings.
The regional pageant will include modeling routines of casual and formal wear along with an interview in which participants ages 7 to 19 can show their personalities to the judging panel. According to a press release from the pageant “personality is the number one aspect that each contestant is judged on during all phases of competition.”
To be selected, Esparza had to submit an application and did an interview with the pageant coordinator. The person selected to be Miss Jr. Pre-Teen Oakland/San Jose will go on to represent the region at the national competition in Orlando, Florida, where they will compete for $30,000 in prizes and awards. The winners receive an expenses-paid trip of five nights, six days. If she moves onto the national competition, she will need to raise $495 from sponsors.
Esparza can be reached at 831-537-3083 or 831-664-6754 for those interested in supporting her or may also call the pageant coordinator at 1-877-403-6678.
