The Monterey County District Attorney Dean D. Flippo announced earlier Monday that as a result of Prunedale’s Jesse Crow’s death, the case against him will be dismissed.
Crow, who was accused of the murder of his 23-year-old wife, was found hanging from a makeshift rope in his jail cell Saturday. Crow was awaiting a preliminary hearing while in the Monterey County Jail.
Crow was arrested on Feb. 16 on suspicion of his wife’s homicide, three months before investigators identified the remains of Ryann Crow in the San Mateo Bridge area. Investigation took nearly seven weeks before the body was found.
The District Attorney’s Office released a slew of evidence against Crow on Monday.
As investigators searched for the body of Ryann Crow, information pointed toward Crow as the murderer. Through testimony from four people who assisted Crow in the disposal of Ryann’s body, investigators were able to strengthen their case, according to a statement from the Monterey County Districts Attorney’s Office. All testimony corroborated and was deemed justified by other findings from investigators.
“The District’s Attorney’s Office was extremely confident that a jury being presented with the evidence would find beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant, Jesse Crow, was responsible for the brutal murder of his wife, Ryann Bunnell,” according to the statement.
Prosecutors also filed a special circumstance of “murder for financial gain” after it was discovered that Crow was afraid his wife would report him to the police for having a “very large scale” marijuana operation.
