Charles “Smitty” A. Schmidt died Thursday morning at the age of 87 at the Mabie Northside Skilled Nursing Facility. Born September 30, 1916 in St. Louis, Missouri, he came to California in 1951 and to Hollister in 1988. Smitty has been a salesman all his life having worked as an appliance salesman. He also worked for Custom Paper Products in San Francisco and San Jose Paperbox company. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of SRS of Ridgemark and member of the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club.

He is survived by his wife Olivia “Dolly” M. Schmidt of Hollister; children Bill Schmidt and wife, Wanda, of Cameron Park, Calif.., Jim Schmidt and wife, Renee, of Beaver Creek, Ore., and Robin Vorst and husband, Gary, of Los Banos. He is also survived by six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Monday afternoon at 1pm in the chapel of Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home. Arrangements for Cremation and burial at sea are under the direction of Grunnagle Ament Nelson Crematory. Contributions are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
