The California Highway Patrol, in cooperation with the Hollister Police Department, is planning to conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday somewhere within city limits, according to a press release from the HPD.

The goal is to ensure the “safe passage of each and every motorist by targeting roads” with a high frequency of drunk driving, according to the statement.

Officers with the two agencies, according to the statement, believe publicizing the efforts will deter motorists from drinking and driving during this holiday weekend.

“Our objective is to send a message to those considering mixing alcohol and/or drugs with driving,” the statement reads.
