Police have recovered items stolen this week from the Hollister Heat softball organization, according to a statement from the Hollister Police Department.

A citizen tipped off police Wednesday after becoming suspicious of two juveniles “hanging around” a vacant apartment. The citizen checked the apartment and found Heat property that included clothes, office supplies, food and food preparation equipment. Because of the report, officers discovered one of the snack bars at Veterans Memorial Park had been broken into the prior night.

Police returned the stolen items to the local organization, but the investigation is continuing.

According to the police statement: “This is a great example of the teamwork needed between the citizens of Hollister and the Police Department in our combined efforts to make Hollister a safe place for its residents,” Captain Carlos Reynoso said. “We encourage everyone to call us for anything they deem suspicious. What may seem small or insignificant to the normal person might be a great tip or a piece of a puzzle that can lead to us to solve a crime.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident is requested to call Officer Erik Morris at (831) 636-4330. People wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTIP at (800) 78-CRIME. Information provided to WeTip may result in an award of up to $1,000.
