A citizen’s tip led to the identification of a home burglary suspect in the 600 block of Argonne Drive last week, according to the Hollister Police Department.
Police are searching for Alfedo Zendejas, 18, who remains at large, in connection with the June 20 burglary. It was reported around 3 p.m. as having occurred earlier that day. A witness, though, came forward and provided the license plate number for a suspicious vehicle that has been parked in front of the victim’s house at the time of the burglary.
The witness also reported a Hispanic male, whom he had never seen before, walking in the backyard of the burglarized home.
According to the police statement: Officers traced the address for the registered owner of the vehicle to a home on the 100 block of Sierra Court in Hollister. When officers arrived at the home they located the vehicle and attempted to contact the residents at that address. Zendejas was observed fleeing the residence through a back window. Officers gave chase but Zendejas, a known gang member, eluded capture by escaping through a nearby apartment complex. Officers attempted to locate Zendejas but were unable to locate him.
Gang Officer Carlos Rodriguez obtained a search warrant for Zendejas’ home on Sierra Court and found a large number of possible stolen items in his room. The victim of the burglary identified the stolen property as the items taken from the home on Argonne Drive, and they were returned to the victim.
Police said the identification and the recovery of the victim’s property would not have been possible without the diligence and cooperation of the witness in this case.
This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident or the whereabouts of Zendejas is requested to call Rodriguez at 636-4330. Persons wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTip at (800) 78-CRIME.
