It hurts me to criticize the Free Lance because of my long
association with it, but it is time to speak out.
My concern is that obscenity you call Citizens Voice. It is the
moral equivalent of issuing a hood and a box of matches to every
crackpot and coward in the country and waiting to report the
burning crosses.

When a reputable newspaper gets a call from a citizen concerned about an unjust or crooked situation, but is afraid of retribution if he goes public, the newspaper promises to protect his anonymity. Then it queries the persons charged. If the editor determines the complaints are valid, he publishes the story. If the charges are unfounded, the story is not run and mud is not slung in print.
No matter that a few papers allow this type of invective to soil their pages, the Free Lance should not, no matter how you try to justify it.
