Ridgemark Golf & Country Club has a potential buyer, but a lawsuit with the homeowners’ association is slowing the sale, which must be completed by the end of this month, according to the site’s general manager.
“The homeowners’ association board and their attorney, I believe, has been dealing directly with the buyer to see if they can work out an agreement,” said Alex Kehriotis, the president and general manager of the golf and country club.
The potential buyer, John Wynn of San Jose, has been in negotiations with the association since December and was “given several extensions in an attempt to figure something out with the homeowners’ association board,” Kehriotis said. So far, there have been two extensions, but Kehriotis does not anticipate a third one extending beyond the one that ends this week.
“We’re not going to extend him indefinitely,” he said.
Kehriotis would not speak about the potential buyer’s background.
“I don’t want to speak on his behalf,” he said.
The lawsuit began in April of 2014 when the Ridgemark Homes Association filed a complaint against JMK Golf, LLC, the company that acquired the golf course more than five years ago.
In the complaint, the association asked for a judge to review whether JMK had the right to develop commercial property, specifically a shopping center and residential developments on any portion of the golf course. Other complaints from the amended document dated May 30, 2014 included concerns about which party should pay for road maintenance and nearby landscaping.
The golf course closed some of its fairways and moved from a 36-hole course to an 18-hole facility last year.
Supervisor Jerry Muenzer, who represents the gated community, said it is important to retain the jobs at the facility and to retain the operation. He said the sale’s fate is in the hands of the homeowners’ association now.
“The county feels it’s important that the operation of a golf course and clubhouse and hotel will be able to continue,” Muenzer said.
