still garners reproach from those in positions of authority, even
when it is done in jest.
Regarding your article in the Nov. 7 edition, “‘Communist club’ ruffling feathers at Anzar,” it is clear that free-thinking students (the vanguard of change in our society) can still create unrest in the “establishment” even as they did in the 1960s. Straying from the party line still garners reproach from those in positions of authority, even when it is done in jest.
The students involved in the “USSA” should be commended for their original thinking and approach to the requirements of their curriculum. Anzar staff, on the other hand, should be chastised for their admitted failure in educating these young people. I am referring, of course, to the statement attributed to one of the staff comparing the group to “a slap in the face since the students have no idea what real communism is or what it stands for.” If they really have no idea what communism is or what it stands for, whose fault is that?
If the staff feels a slap in the face then perhaps they should turn the other cheek and get busy teaching students about a part of history every American student should learn.
