Former Lady Baler JC Clayton and the BYU Cougars will play in four games this weekend at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto.

Beginning Friday, the Cougars will open the four-game slate against UC Santa Barbara at 12:15 p.m., then finish off the day against No. 12 Stanford at 4:45 p.m.

On Saturday, BYU will continue play against Santa Clara at 11:15 a.m., prior to playing University of Pacific at 3:35 p.m.

All games will be held at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium in Palo Alto.

The Cougars enter the tournament with a 16-7 record, with each of their 23 games coming on the road, and all but one of their losses coming to a ranked opponent.

Clayton, meanwhile, who graduated just last spring from San Benito High, is currently batting .406 (26 of 64) for the Cougars, which is second highest on the team.

Farias drops 20 in semifinals

Former Lady Baler Vanessa Farias scored a team-high 20 points, including a 5 of 8 performance from behind the arc, to help lead the Westmont College women’s basketball team past Hope International 82-68 in the semifinal game of the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament earlier this month.

Farias, who graduated from San Benito High last spring, was 7 of 11 from the field in the contest and played 23 minutes. She had three rebounds, a block and a steal as well.

It was a season-high for the freshman guard, who averaged 4.8 points per game this season at Westmont, which is located in Santa Barbara.

The Warriors (18-13), however, were unable to pull past No. 3 Vanguard in the GSAC championship game, narrowly falling by a 68-66 margin.
