The county coroner has identified a 23-year-old Honduran citizen whose body was found near San Juan Bautista after a suspected homicide.
The victim was Olvin Humberto Aleman, according to the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office, which is the county coroner. Aleman’s address was listed in Mendota but he was an Honduran national, according to a statement released Friday from the sheriff’s office.
A sheriff’s official Jan. 27 confirmed that a suspected homicide victim was killed in San Benito County before his body showed up along an embankment near San Juan Bautista in the 3200 block of the Salinas Grade/San Juan Grade Road. Investigators found a baseball bat on the scene as well.
Taylor estimated Jan. 27 that the death had occurred in the prior 24 to 48 hours.
Authorities had yet to adequately identify the man and inform next of kin before an autopsy had been done earlier this week.
According to the Friday statement from the sheriff’s office:
“The deputy came around a bend in the 3200 block and saw a blue metal bat in the roadway. As he went to move the bat, he noticed what appeared to be blood in the turnout area on the west shoulder of the road. There was a guard-rail post with suspected blood on it. As he looked over the embankment, he saw what appeared to be a deceased individual approximately 15 feet down. He traversed the embankment and checked the vitals of the individual. He found the subject was deceased.”
