Country Rose Cafe will not rent the space formerly occupied by The Vault, after all.

Ignacio Velazquez, owner of the downtown building where he housed The Vault, said the deal fell through because Country Rose Cafe owners Sharon Baker and Nicole Geslin had issues with their lease agreement at 696 Fourth St.

Velazquez in January had announced he was closing the 10-year-old Vault restaurant and seeking tenants for the building.

When she originally agreed to move in, Baker had noted both their current site’s lack of space for a growing customer base and the downtown building’s size and visibility as key factors in the decision. She declined to comment on the deal falling through.

Velazquez today said there are a few other people interested in possibly renting out the building in central downtown and that he could know soon who might occupy it.
