David Hain Parker died suddenly Monday at Doctors Hospital in Modesto. He was 88.
A native of Chicago, Mr. Parker was a farmer and rancher and grew up on The Parker Ranch in Tres Pinos. During World War II he worked in the shipyard in San Francisco and at the end of the war he returned to San Benito County and bought a ranch in which he owned for more than 40 years.
Mr. Parker was an engineer for Caltrans and retired in 1981. He then worked in the same capacity as a highway engineer for San Benito County. He also was a member of the First Presbyterian Church; a 31-year member of the Hollister Lodge No. 1436 BPOE; 64-year member of Mound Lodge No. 166 Independent Order of Odd Fellows of HOllister; a Hollister SIRS member and a member of the California State Employees Retirement System.
Besides playing golf, he and his wife Ruth enjoyed going to Mt. Hermon’s musical events.
He is survived by his wife Ruth C. Parker of Hollister; sons and daughters-in-law David Arnold and Loretta Parker of San Jose and Frank Hain and Gloria Parker of Gilroy; daughter and son-in-law Gail Ann and Larry Shaw of Groveland; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Barbara Parker of Concord and Dorothy Connors of Alameda and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his brothers William and John Parker.
Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. Friday at the Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. Memorial services will be conducted by the Hollister Elks Lodge at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Family and friends will meet at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church for funeral services at 9 a.m. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery.
Donations are preferred to the Building Fund of the First Presbyterian Church or to the Emmaus House in care of the funeral home.
