Wow, what an amazing opportunity the golfers in this area have as our national championship comes to our own backyard at Pebble Beach Golf Links. For those of you going to this fantastic event, here are a couple of tips to make your viewing experience more enjoyable.

First and foremost, wear comfortable shoes. You will be doing a great deal of walking, so this is imperative. And, by the way, you don’t need to wear your golf shoes; everyone there plays golf, so you don’t have to broadcast that you are a golfer by wearing your spikes. It’s not like the marshal is going to let you inside the ropes because you are wearing Foot-Joys.

Secondly, the question that you should be asking yourself is: Do I pick a group, do I pick a spot or do I just wander? Everyone wants to see Tiger, so following him around is like herding cattle. But you might be able to get a glimpse if you go out ahead of him a hole or two and wait for him to come by.

If you have a favorite spot and you don’t care walking too much, plant your butt there and you can see everyone come through. I think that Pebble Beach is simply the most beautiful spot on Earth. Wandering the golf course and viewing great golf along the way is the way I like to do it.

But before you go, check the rules. No cell phones, no cameras, etc. Whatever you choose, cherish the hours. It only comes around about every 10 years.

Besides, when you look out over the seventh, eighth and ninth holes, it gives you a chance to be proud that we live in one of the most beautiful areas in the entire world.
