Often times, a slice is caused by a combination of bad habits. However, the main item that causes a slice is the club face is open at impact, and thus the ball rolls off the club face with sidespin and not backspin.

To help cure the club face position, it is important that you release the club head through impact. The release is the crossing over of the wrists and forearms during impact and through your follow-through.

One tip that I try to pass along to slicer’s, pertaining to the release through impact, is try to get the inside of your forearms to touch. If that happens, the club face will close right along with it and help prevent a slice.

If you are wearing a watch on your left wrist, you should have contact with the back of the watch and the inside of your right forearm when doing this correctly.
