Barber by occupation, Don owned Downtown Barbers before his retirement in 2000. Besides cutting hair in his small traditional shop, he also found enjoyment in restoring vintage autos. He spent countless hours working on them before selling them to go on to new projects.

Don was an intense but private person who often turned to his guitar for quiet contemplation. He could play classical and Spanish guitar and focus on intricate and complex strumming to take him to a world musicians only can travel.

In his more amiable moments, pool stick in hand, he would seek out his favorite bar to play pool. He rarely drank, but enjoyed the company and camaraderie of playing pool.

He loved passionately, and the departure of loved ones broke his heart and diminished his will to live; pneumonia completed the task.

Don was a Gilroy native and attended Gilroy schools with siblings and a large number of cousins in the Duran family.

Don leaves children Lynn, Jean, and Don McCammond, two step-daughters, Sabina Ortiz and Sandy Garcia, loving siblings Joseph Duran (Josie), Barbara Allen (Ken Isenbarger), Robert McCammond (Kathy), Marilyn McCammond, Debra Acosta, Sonjia Edwards (Jim). Don was married several times, and his children, his brothers and sisters, their children, and a large extended family comprised his family unit.

He was preceded in death by parents Jean Duran & Harold (Mac) McCammond.

We will miss him dearly but remember him with a smile and much love and respect.
