Don O’Donoghue passed on June 4, 2007, after a 14 month battle with cancer. He was born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Don grew up and went to school in Scarboro, Ontario until age 16, when he was drafted by the St. Catherine’s Black Hawks Junior A Hockey club. Don was drafted by the NHL Oakland Seals in
I 969. While playing in Oakland, he met and married his wife Diana. Don continued to play professional
Hockey in the NHL, WHA, and AHL for the next 10 years. After retiring from hockey, Don opened a few restaurants, finally settling in Gilroy, opening.O.D.’s Kitchen in 1989. O.D.’S is a breakfast and lunch family style restaurant where Don and family have spent many hours TOB. Don was the first person you saw when you walked through the door and the last when you left, a tireless worker who greeted and treated everyone the same for the last 17 years, until fighting his illness became his new priority. Don made many friends in Gilroy while helping and donating to the community. Don was passionate about his golf and enjoyed playing with his friends and was in many tournaments. Don was a loving husband and father to his wife Diana of 36 years and 4 children, Michael, Mark, Bryan , and daughter Kelli.
Don is survived by his wife Diana of36 years, children Michael 34, Marie 32, Bryan 27, Kelli 24, brothers Michael, Gerald, David, Sean, and sister Barbara Howe. Dan’s parents predeceased
Visitation will be Monday, June 11, 2007, 12:00 noon until 9:00 P.M., with Vigil at 7:00 P.M. at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, June 12, 2007 – 1:00 P.M. at St. Mary Church, Gilroy. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilroy.
