Dorothy J. Marentis died Saturday, Oct. 18 at her Hollister home. She was 87.

She was born in San Benito County and was the daughter of Oscar and Josephine Butterfield. She was born and raised on the Butterfield ranch in the Pinnacles area. She was a lifetime resident of San Benito County, a member of Sunnyslope Christian Center, a licensed cosmetologist and worked for Caterpiller Tractor during WWII.

She is survived by her sons and their wives, Edward and Shirley Marentis of Point Ludlow, Wash., and Gary and Debra Marentis of Hollister; sister Viella Hardin of Hollister and her eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Marentis, her brother George Butterfield and her sister Grace Robinson.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. at Sunnyslope Christian Center. Rev. Kevin Townsend will officiate. A reception will follow the services at the church social hall.

Interment will be at the IOOF Cemetery.

Donations may be made to Sunnyslope Christian Center in care of Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home, who is in charge of arrangements and cremation.
