Longtime community member Dorothy June Byers Scagliotti died Wednesday, Sept. 24, in Oceanside, Calif., at the age of 79.

She was the oldest twin born to Maurice & Dorothy Byers of Gilroy. She graduated from Gilroy High School and went on to O’Connor’s Nursing School in San Jose.

For many years she was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Gilroy. Between 1953- 1957 she was very active in the Gymkanna Days.

She is survived by her four children; Donald Goodwin of Ione, Calif., Diane Goodwin of Oceanside, Calif, Deborah Goodwin-Carlos of Gilroy and Richard Scagliotti of Hollister; grandchildren Dawn Soza and Wendy Reed both of Hollister, John T. Reed Jr. of Annapolis, Md., Karen Goodwin Allen of Alameda, Calif, Donald Hugh Goodwin of San Jose, Scott Knudsen and Sean Herriott of Oceanside and David and Ryan Scagliotti of Hollister; eight great-grandchildren; brother Maurice Byers Jr. of Florence, Ore., Joanne Byers DeLozier of Santa Clara, and the late Jeanne Byers Smith. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Her first ex-husband, Donald Goodwin, preceded her death in 1979 and her second ex-husband, Richard Scagliotti, preceded her in death in 1985.

Visitation is Sunday, Sept. 28, from 2–4 p.m. at the Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy.

Funeral services will be Monday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at the Gavilan Hills Memorial Park in Gilroy.
