Gilroy native
Gilroy native Dorothy E. Strickland died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002. She was 81.

Mrs. Strickland graduated from Gilroy High School and received a master’s degree in education from San Jose State University. She was a teacher at many elementary schools in Gilroy before retiring in the 1980s.

She was a member of the of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Gilroy and was the church’s organist and active in its Altar Guild. She was a past member of the Gilroy Soroptomists Club and the Dorcas Organization. An avid reader, she was a patron of the Gilroy Library and also taught private piano lessons.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jim and Ann Strickland of Hollister and Patricia and Eldon Lee of Hesperia; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and her cousins, the Goold family of Gilroy.

She was preceded in death by her son, Dave Strickland, in 1993.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Gilroy. Arrangements are under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy.

Memorials are preferred to the donor’s favorite charity.
