There’s only one contested seat on the Gavilan Community College Board of Trustees. Perennial candidate Manly Willis is challenging one-term incumbent Mark Dover for the Gilroy-area seat.
Gavilan seats are reserved for candidates from specific geographic areas, but the entire community college district votes for candidates, meaning all San Benito County and south Santa Clara County residents will vote for the Gilroy-area seat.
This one’s an easy call. We heartily endorse Mark Dover, who has proven himself to be a capable, effective trustee over the last four years. A former Gavilan employee, he was so concerned about the school’s direction that he ran for a seat. Now that’s putting your money where your mouth is. He knows the college inside and out, and has put that knowledge to good use as the school weathers the state’s budget crisis, sports program difficulties and oversees prudent spending plans for money from the college’s successful facilities bond campaign.
Dover has earned another term on the Gavilan board. On Nov. 2, vote for Mark Dover for Gavilan school board.
