Elizabeth “Libby” Shutts

Libby Shutts, artist, family matriarch and zucchini connoisseur, passed away peacefully the morning of January 26, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. She was a long-time resident of Hollister and Palo Alto, where she was a substitute schoolteacher for the Palo Alto Unified School District for many years. She later worked in the planning office at Stanford University until her retirement. The past 6 years she resided in Pleasanton. Libby was a respected Chinese Brush painter who loved to share her passion and talent with everyone she could, and her cheerful and polite demeanor ensured that she was universally loved. Her sense of humor, even in times of pain or crisis, was legendary. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hamilton Shutts, and survived by three children, Judson Shutts, Peter Shutts, and Janet Rowe; and five grandchildren Scott Rowe, Monica Shutts, and Shannon, Cameron and Taylor Shutts.

Services will be held on Friday, January 30, at Christ Episcopal Church, 1040 Border Rd, Los Altos, CA 94024, at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to California Baron’s Ball, c/o the American Cancer Society, 747 Camden Ave, Ste. B, Campbell, CA 95008.
