Hollister native
Hollister native Emilia Alvarez Sanchez died Saturday, March 15, 2003 in Montebello. She was 74.

Mrs. Sanchez was born in Hollister and graduated from San Benito High School in 1947. She worked as a sales clerk in a downtown clothing store and later as a telephone operator with Pacific Bell. In 1949 she married Manuel Sanchez and a year later the couple moved to Montebello, where she was a member of St. Benedict Church.

She is survived by her children, Victor, Tony, Anna and Maria, all of Montebello; her brothers and sisters, John and Jose Alvarez, Teresa Mendoza and Maria Martinez, all of Hollister, Aurelia Aldana of San Jose and Raymond Alvarez of Buena Park; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988.

Services have been held in Montebello with interment at Riverside National Cemetery. Arrangments were under the direction of Moritz Funeral Home in Montebello.
