years.
Life-long San Benito County resident Evelyn F. “Tudy” Dias passed away at the Gilroy Health Care & Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday March 15 at the age of 89 years.

Tudy, as she was affectionally called by her family and friends was born in Tres Pinos, attended Tres Pinos Grammar School and graduated from Hollister High School. As a young woman living in San Benito County, Tudy met her husband to be and she and George Dias Sr. were married October 29, 1935. They celebrated 67 years of marriage before George passed away June 23, 2002 . Besides being a homemaker, Tudy was also the bookkeeper for the Chevron Service Station that she and George owned in San Juan Bautista from 1956 until 1981. Tudy was a outdoors person said her family, and as a couple she traveled with her husband throughout California, Wyoming, Nevada, and Idaho, several times when he was on his hunting and fishing trips. ” She was a avid gardener. Her yard was always immaculate and weed free,” said her grandchildren.

Evelyn was one of the original twelve members of the Wednesday Club who met once a month to play cards and organize summertime outings to places of interest. Evelyn also bowled in the Hollister Bowling Leagues; played Bridge with the San Juan Bridge Club; was a fifty year member of San Juan Parlor, NGDW, the Old Mission San Juan Bautista, the Mission Guild. She was also a former co-chairperson with her late husband of the San Juan Fiesta & Rodeo Committee where she helped cook over 500,000 chickens for the Fiesta barbeques over the years.

Tudy is survived by her children and their spouses, George J. Dias Jr. and Barbara Dias of San Juan Bautista, and Nancy Lee Armer and spouse Tom of Hollister; her grandchildren George A. Dias of San Juan Bautista, Mark J. Dias and spouse Rhonna of Hollister, Todd M. Dias and spouse Sharon of Nevada City, and Toni Fischer and spouse John of Hollister; her great-grandchildren Dayna, Mimi, Jared and Riley Dias, and Sydney Fischer; and her niece Gracie Bernard of Northern California. She was preceeded in death by her sister Nellie Stevens.

Visitation will be held on Monday March 21 from 10am until 8pm at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home 870 San Benito St., Hollister with the Rosary being held at 7pm.

Family and friends will meet at the Old Mission San Juan Bautista on Tuesday morning at 9:45am to attend a Mass of the Resurrection beginning at 10am.

Interment will follow at San Juan Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to the Native Daughters of the Golden West or to the San Juan VFW Hall where she helped cook for their functions, c/o Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home.
