Everett Clair Wentworth 93, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away at his home on September 30, 2009. He was born in Cresco, IA on June 26, 1916 and traveled to Gilroy, CA with his parents and three brothers in 1924. He attended local schools in Gilroy and graduated from Gilroy High School in 1934 where he lived for 84 years. He was the beloved husband of Margaret Wentworth for 69 years. He and Margaret had moved to Manteca two years ago to be closer to their family.
He is survived by his children Fredrick (Judy) Wentworth of Manteca, and Pamela (Ambrose) Manikowski of Italy, grandchildren Kevin (Diane) Wentworth, Kristen (Mark) Condit all of Manteca, Mia Costa of Tracy and August (Melanie) of Houston, TX and five great-grandchildren.
He owned and operated a heavy equipment company for many years. He was an avid golfer and held many Gilroy Golf Club championships. His grandson Kevin went on to take up the golfing mantel and Margaret and Everett enjoyed traveling around the country watching him play golf. He was a member of the Gilroy United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, and the Shriners.
He followed in his father’s footsteps and became active in Gilroy city politics and served on the Gilroy City Council from 1956 to 1977. His father John served from 1940-1952. His son Rick also served on the Manteca City Council.
He was the son of the late John and Louise Wentworth. In addition to his parents, his son John in Vietnam and three brothers Roger, Donald and Eugene Wentworth, preceded Everett in death.
He loved to play Gin Rummy and all of his great-grandchildren will remember the many hours spent playing some kind of card game with GGPa.
He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
A memorial celebration of life service will be held at the Gilroy United Methodist Church on November 2, 2009, at 1:30 P.M.
