Hollister firefighters responded to three fire calls in a span of an hour and 15 minutes the night of Christmas Eve, with the most serious blaze doing about $50,000 in damage to a roof and attic.
That fire was reported at 10:01 p.m. to a Line Street residence, Fire Chief Mike O’Connor said Friday. The blaze was contained to the attic and roof to the one-story house, the chief said. Occupants were home at the time but escaped without injury. They first noticed the possibility of fire when they saw smoke coming through their vents, O’Connor said.
The fire chief said the cause was electrical.
“They thought it was just the air conditioner or heating,” he said.
Firefighters were on scene for two to three hours, said O’Connor. He estimated the damage amount at $50,000.
Just 11 minutes after that report, the fire department received another report of a fire to an apartment unit at 1200 Rancho Drive, the chief said. That fire was restricted to the kitchen in the unit where it started.
Then at 11:16 p.m., firefighters received a report of a fire on Albany Court at a house under construction. Oil rags in a garbage pile spontaneously combusted, but crews quickly put out the small blaze, said O’Connor, noting that his department requested auto aid from the South Santa Clara County department.
