Dear Editor:

The San Benito County Chamber of Commerce has received an overwhelming response from its membership regarding the county’s growth initiative.

The Chamber has not taken a position of supporting or opposing the initiative that was passed by the Board of Supervisors in early April.

However, we do believe that local community members should have the right to vote on decisions that are likely to significantly impact their lives. The right to vote is an important civil right in a democracy, as well as a civic responsibility.

The San Benito County Chamber exists “to create, promote and celebrate economic vitality within San Benito County by providing resources to businesses and individuals.”

Historically, the Chamber has been an informational resource through political forums. We strive to serve our members in a thoughtful and effective manner, and need to know how the membership would like to be represented regarding issues that clearly affect commerce in San Benito County.

In the near future, Chamber members will be receiving a poll regarding political and business issues. We want to know how you would like your voice to be heard through the Chamber. Ranging from city and county issues, to statewide issues, the Chamber wants to know how you would like to see us involved.
