The schedule for the San Benito football team was released last week and the Haybalers will open their 2010 campaign at Andrew Hill on Sept. 3 at 7 p.m.

The season opener is the second game of a home-and-home series with Hill. The two teams met up last year during Week 1 in Hollister, where the Balers earned a 17-7 victory over the Falcons to spark an eight-game winning streak to open the season.

Oak Grove and Wilcox, meanwhile, which matched up with San Benito during last season’s non-conference slate, will square off against the Balers for a second straight year.

San Benito will travel to San Jose to take on Oak Grove during Week 2 on Sept. 10, and will then return to Hollister to take on Wilcox during Week 3 on Sept. 17 – the Balers’ home opener.

The final of four non-conference games will pit San Benito against Palo Alto at home on Sept. 24. The visiting Vikings went 7-2-2 last season before falling to eventual Open Division champion Bellarmine as the No. 4 seed in the Central Coast Section playoffs.

San Benito plans to honor its past CCS championship teams from 1984, 1985, 1986, 2000 and 2005 during its Sept. 24 game against Palo Alto, and Athletic Director Tod Thatcher is looking to recognize as many players from those title-winning seasons.

“We just want to bring those guys in and recognize their accomplishments,” Thatcher said.

Grouping the ’84, ’85 and ’86 championship teams together as one, the 2010 season will mark the fifth, 10th and 25th anniversary of San Benito’s CCS-winning teams.

“We’re just trying to get the word out,” Thatcher said.

The Tri-County Athletic League season, meanwhile, will kick off on Oct. 1 when the Balers will visit Alisal. San Benito will return home for a pair of games against Salinas (Oct. 8) and North Salinas (Oct. 22), with the team’s bye week splitting the home contests on Oct. 15.

The latter game against North High, meanwhile, will be the Balers’ Homecoming.

San Benito then hits the road at Everett Alvarez (Oct. 29) and Gilroy (Nov. 5) before retuning home for Senior Night and the regular-season finale against Palma (Nov. 12).

All games, with the exception of the two 7 p.m. starts against Andrew Hill and Oak Grove, will kick off at 7:30 p.m. All games are subject to change.
