For the first time in the program’s two-year history, the Anzar football won a home game Friday, beating Trinity Christian 52-48.
It’s Anzar’s first home win in six chances dating back to its debut season last year.
The victory gives the Hawks a 1-3 record in 2012.
It was a rousing win for Anzar, which controlled the game from its opening moments by building a 12-0 first quarter lead. Eventually, Anzar led by 24 points in the third quarter before Trinity Christian made things interesting in the final quarter.
For the second-consecutive week, Anzar was led by its rushing attack, as senior Gabriel Hatcher ran for 156 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries. Overall, the Hawks ran for 377 yards on the ground.
Quarterback Jeremy Cedeno ran for 68 yards and completed 10 of his 14 passes for 93 yards. He also contributed a touchdown.
Junior Kory Moran also had his best game, rushing for 102 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Defensively, Anzar forced five turnovers, including three fumbles to slow down the Trinity Christian attack. Joseph Banuelos finished with a game-high 23 tackles for Anzar.
Anzar will go for its second win at 6:30 p.m. Friday against Pinewood in San Juan Bautista.
