Editor,
The Terry Schiavo case has indeed laid bare the ghoulish face of secular humanism. Behind the activist judiciary, behind the cowering state and federal politicians of both parties, behind starvation-is-fun mainstream media, behind the snotty international sophisticates, and serving as its spiritual underpinning lies the philosophy and ethical approach to modern living known as secular humanism. Breaking news: secular humanism cannot co-exist with Christianity. Nor with Judaism, Buddhism or Islam.
Secular humanism not only declares God to be dead, secular humanism declares man himself to be God. Under the umbrella of secular humanism, all values (if there be values at all) come from mankind himself. There being no external and objective God, it follows that the moral and ethical compass is entirely the hands of mankind. And not in individual men and women, but rather in the collective of men and women, namely the state. And in the 21st century, increasingly, the world. In this formulation of being, Terri Schiavo, an innocent handicapped person, should be starved to death because she retains little value to the collective state. Let’s be clear: it was a government-sanctioned starvation. Not only was the feeding tube removed, the judge ordered that Terri not be given food or water by mouth either! Interesting and chilling, that the first group of people that Nazi’s sent to an untimely demise were the handicapped. Later, they came for other groups. On the other hand, if Terri Schiavo has an immortal soul and is indeed created in the image and likeness of God, she clearly cannot be put to death.
Secular humanism has become the single accepted ideology of liberal college professors in our universities. It is increasingly becoming the ideology of our secondary schools where the textbooks used are often based on the concept of secular humanism. It is accepted doctrine to the international community, particularly in oh-so-sophisticated Europe. Secular humanism is the soulless gray mask behind which the Michael Schiavos hide. And a prime tenant of secular humanism is the elimination of all religions – particularly the Christian religion – even as it was a prime tenant of Hitler, Stalin and Mao in their godless and murderous revolutions.
The Declaration of Independence states “that they (all men) are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” This concept is codified then in the Constitution. If secular humanism can destroy the concept of God and the many attacks on the Ten Commandments, and the Cross, and the Star of David, and the pledge, intend to do exactly that – then the source of all rights can become the state. Thus the intensity of the attack these days on religion.
Terri Schiavo is the tip of the iceberg of what the secular humanists intend for us. At Terri’s passing, the first American to be killed by judicially-sanctioned starvation, we need to reflect as to what will be next. In Nazi German the disabled were first.
