Forgiving Paws celebrates its first year as thrift store

The Hollister-based Forgiving Paws Thrift Shop celebrated its first year anniversary last weekend with an event celebrating agencies that lend helping paws to pets in need.
Forgiving Paws, Inc. is a nonprofit that raises funds for shelters and rescues, primarily through the thrift store in Hollister, according to the group’s website.
Organizations that ran adoption or informational booths at the outdoor event March 19 included the Central Coast Pug Rescue, Operation Freedom Paws, the Hollister Animal Shelter, Peace of Mind Dog Rescue and Pet Friends, according to an email from Maggie Lairson, the chief executive officer of Forgiving Paws, Inc.
The nonprofit also presented Hollister Police Officer David Anderson with a bulletproof vest for Canine Officer Freeze, Lairson explained in the email. The event was held in front of the nonprofit’s thrift shop, which is located at 195 Meridian St. in Hollister.
During the same day, Lily Biochi, a young author who wrote “Blame Bogart”—a book written from the dog’s perspective—presented the nonprofit with a check for $14 in book proceeds when she arrived and an additional $55 at the close of the event.
The nonprofit also hosted a 25 percent off sale March 19 and March 23-26.
