Gabino T. Flores, Sr. passed away at Stanford Medical Center at the age of 85. He was born in San Juan, Texas and lived in Hollister for over 60 years. He and his wife, Hortencia were married in 1954 in San Juan, TX and moved to Hollister in 1955. He worked in the agriculture business for many years, served in the U.S. Army during WWII and he liked to fill his time with scratching lottery tickets, feeding the birds, watching boxing, taking walks, playing with his grandchildren, cooking every now and then and finally, politics.
He is survived by his wife, Hortencia Flores of Hollister, his children and their spouses, Jessie and Judy Flores of Springfield, IL, Rosie Whitmore of Tempe, AZ, Fred and Flora Flores of Hollister, Gabino Jr. and Teddy Flores of Hollister, Eriberto and Silvia Flores of Hollister, Rosa and Ralph Dozal of Salinas, Cindy and Bert Ortiz of Salinas, Nellie and Red Fielden of Hollister and Sylvia and Luis Roman of Hollister, his brothers and sisters have preceded him in death,Virginia Castillo, Refugia Cano (Cuca), Ramon Flores, Juan Flores, Gregorio Flores, Amado Flores, Maximo Flores and Guadalupe Flores. He has 35 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Frances Flores and Elijah Pineda.
He has a grandson stationed in San Diego that could not be here. He is in boot camp with the U.S. Marines, Gilbert Ortiz.
Friends can pay their respects on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008 from 2:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. The Rosary will be at the funeral home at 7:00 P.M. Monday evening at the funeral home. The Mass will be on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church. Friends can meet at the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. for a procession to the church. Interment will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery where military rites will be offered by VFW Post 9242.
