GILROY –– City police have arrested two men who they believe stabbed a 27-year-old man four times in what they believe is a gang-related incident.

The stabbing took place at 12:26 a.m. Tuesday at a 9120 Murray Ave. residence, according to police.

The victim, whose name police did not release, was treated at Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy and released within a few hours, police reported.

Police quickly arrested Carlos Ramon San Miguel, 21, of Gilroy, and Nicholas Ramirez, 24, of Milpitas. Both were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Police do not believe there are any attackers still at large, according to police detective Cpl. Rosa Quiñones.

Police believe both suspects are gang members and that the stabbing had to do with gang activity, Quiñones said. The police Anti-Crime Team, a gang and drug specialty force, is investigating the case. It was the second outbreak of gang violence in little more than 48 hours in Gilroy, according to police.

Around midnight Sunday, a brawl broke out during a rap show at a downtown club in the 7000 block of Monterey Street. An ACT corporal described it in his report as a “Norteño hip-hop concert,” but police did not elaborate. In Gilroy, the Norteño gangs rival those of Sureños. Norteños are born in the United States, while Sureños are Mexican nationals.

Roughly 10 people were involved in the brawl, police said. Officers arrested four men, all from out of town, on suspicion of fighting in public, a misdemeanor: Luis Rodriguez, 25, of Union City; Samuel Esquivel, 24, of Union City; Alfred Leite, 26, of Newark; and Anthony Hernandez, 19, of San Jose.

It was unclear from the police report whether the fight took place inside the club or outside.

The club’s show calendar listed Saturday night’s lead performer as “Freedom AD.” Club management could not be reached for comment as of press time.
