Dr. Jane M. Harmon will take over as Gavilan College’s Vice President of Instruction and Student Services in the fall.
She replaces interim vice president Sherrean Carr who will return to her prior position as Dean of Technical and Public Services.
Harmon’s role is a combination of two previous vice presidential positions that were joined in 2004 due to budgetary reasons.
“I believe that by bringing together these two key divisions, instruction and student services, we will not only continue to provide the quality instruction and student services for which Gavilan College is known, but also will enhance the experience for students at the college,” Harmon said in a release.
For the past 22 years Harmon has worked at community colleges, beginning as a faculty member, then serving as an administrator.
In Minnesota, Harmon helped develop programs for students with disabilities. She served as an administrator at community colleges in New York, president of Cerritos Community College District Administration in Southern California, and at Shasta College in Redding, where she worked most recently before accepting the position at Gavilan.
Harmon attended the University of Texas, Austin where she received her Ph.D. in Educational Administration.
“I look forward to working with the outstanding faculty, administration, and staff at Gavilan College to continue to serve the learners of our communities,” she said.
