Hollister resident
Genaro Solis Pina died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003 at his home in Hollister. He was 83.
Mr. Pina was born in Guanajuato, Mexico and had lived in Hollister for 35 years. He worked as an irrigator for Almaden Vineyards from 1968 until he retired in 1983 and also raised chickens, cows and goats for sale on the land around his home for years.
He was a member of the United Farm Workers and Sacred Heart Church and served coffee and donuts after Spanish Prayer Group meetings Tuesday mornings at the church. He also enjoyed collecting old cars, especially Volkswagens, and refurbishing them. His family said he loved to collect anything.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Guadalupe Maria Pina; his children, Antonio R. “Tony” Pina, Teresa Pina Gomez and her husband, Rufinio, and Maria del Pilar Molina and her husband, Samuel, all of Hollister, and Guillermina Bautista and her husband, Miguel, of La Quinta; five brothers, two sisters, 25 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maria Fonseca.
The Rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. Family and friends will leave the funeral home Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. for Sacred Heart Church where Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to the St. Benedict Church building fund, in care of the funeral home.
