George ” Dan” Reed passed away Thursday morning at Stanford Hospital after complications from a lung transplant. He was 61 years of age.

George was born in Bardstown, Kentucky, coming to San Juan Bautista in 1989.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war and was a member of the V.F.W., Leslie Garrett Post 6359, of San Juan Bta. 

Dan was very active in all San Juan Bautista city committees and was the current Mayor of San Juan Bta.  He served on board in Ambag;  committee on Water Resources Assn.; committee on 156 Highway; sub-committee for Clean Water Grant; and attended C.O.G., Intergrated Waste Management Meetings. 

He was founder of Thanksgiving Dinners at Mission San Juan Bautista, and coordinator for the annual Feast of Saint John the Baptist.

Dan is survived by his wife of 39 years, Marie Reed of San Juan Bautista, daughter, Dana Marie Juarez, husband, Jayme Jr., of Paso Robles, grandsons, Samuel Reed Juarez and Joshua George Juarez, both of Paso Robles, and an aunt, Susie Knoppe, of Bardstown, Ky.

Visitation will be Monday from 10 am to 4 pm at the Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home in Hollister. A Rosary service will be offered Monday evening at 6:30 pm at the Old Mission San Juan Bautista, followed by a funeral Mass commencing at 7 pm. 

Cremation with private inurnment will follow.  Contributions are preferred to the Mission San Juan Bautista.
