George R. Case died at his home in San Juan Bautista on Friday, Dec. 26. He was 78.

He was born in Columbiana, Ohio. He served in the Navy during World War II and worked as a furniture refinisher for many years. He moved to San Juan Bautista from Palo Alto 13 years ago and was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his sisters Ellen Grant of Arizona, Jane Case of Ohio and Cathleen Case of Ohio; daughter Kate Case of Pennsylvania; nieces and their spouses Joellen and Daniel Powers of Menlo Park, and Leslie and Vincenzo Tornatore of Sacramento; brother-in-law Fred Damler, who used to live in Hollister; and many other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Madge Case who died in April 2000.

Donations may be made to The Old Mission Fund in care of Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home, 363 Seventh St., Hollister, Calif., 95023.

Arrangements and cremation are through Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home and Gavilan Hills Crematory.
