Born in Pittsburgh, PA on November 4, 1917 to Ralph G. Kann and Louise Phyllis Mohring. Doddie passed away November 23, 2008 in Morgan Hill, CA. Doddie grew up in Santa Cruz, CA where she attended Grant & Branciforte Grammar Schools, graduating from Santa Cruz High School at the age of 16 and staying in school another year to await her sister’s graduation so they could go to San Jose State College together. She graduated with honors and was a member of the women’s honorary society Black Masque. In 1939 she married Robert W. Knopf of Campbell and they made their home in Los Gatos on Shannon Road. She was very active in Knopf Bros., their building construction business in Los Gatos. Her children’s activities also filled her life with Boy Scouts, Blue Birds & Camp Fire Girls, Baseball, Future Farmers of America and many other school related activities. She was an amazing seamstress and was well known for her delicious pies. After moving to Morgan Hill in 1975, she volunteered her time in Morgan Hill to the Morgan Hill Library, AAUW and as a weekly reading tutor at Walsh Elementary School. Two years ago she was recognized for her dedication since 1942 to the Los Gatos Chapter of the American Red Cross’s Blood Drives where she was famous for her Banana Bread. Doddie was preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters Selma Cavender and Wilma Weeks. She is survived by her husband Bob of 69 years; two sons, Roger (Janie) and Philip (Bonnie), a daughter Georgianna “Diney” Knopf. Roger’s children; David (Gina)(their children Alexandra, Christopher, Gianna & Dominic), and Carrie and her son Olin. Philip’s children; Bryan (Kristen)(their children, Riley, Griffin & Grayson) and Claire Marie Knopf. Her brother Ralph G. Kann (Miriam) of Santa Cruz, brother-in-law Robert Weeks, five Florida nieces & nephews and their children, and a niece & nephew in Colorado. She had three wonderful caregivers, Lydia Rosaldo and Jovee & Dave Tarkon. Her brilliant mind and zest for life will always remain with her family & friends, along with her passion for reading. Remembrances in Doddie’s name to the Friends of the Library, 660 West Main Ave., Morgan Hill, CA 95037, would be greatly appreciated. There will be no services as was her wish.
