A Gilroy woman who allegedly drove drunk and killed her husband and daughter in a Jan. 14 car accident has been charged with murder, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.
Stacy Lonnberg, 51, who originally was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and driving under the influence after rolling the family’s pick-up truck on State Highway 85, had been out on bail since Jan. 18 but has been rearrested and formally charged, according to the District Attorney’s office.
Lonnberg will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. today in San Jose, District Attorney spokeswoman Lisa McCrary said.
McCrary says Lonnberg faces two counts of murder and one count of child endangerment, the latter because her 3-year-old grandson was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The child, named Ethan, survived the accident. Lonnberg’s husband, 57-year-old Fred Lonnberg, and her daughter, 26-year-old Tiffiny Gillette, were killed in the wreck, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP reported Lonnberg attempted a lane change at an unsafe speed around 3:45 p.m. on Jan. 14, which caused her to lose control of the Toyota pickup and roll the vehicle several times near Winchester Boulevard.
Lonnberg had a strong smell of alcohol and told officers she had been drinking before she got behind the wheel, the CHP said.
