Ellis, 31, was that close to making his first cut in a PGA Tour event Friday when play was suspended. He was on the par-4 17th fairway and would bogey that and the par-4 18th to fall to 2-over 73, a one-stroke improvement from his opening round.

Ellis, whose previous PGA Tour experience included the 2010 Frys.com Open and the 2008 U.S. Open, got off to a great start in the second round but began to unravel after carding his first bogey for the round on the par-3 13th. He was 2-under until then with birdies on No. 8 and 9.
