It’s a score the San Benito High girls golf team will try and stay away from next time, but one it will gladly accept under the circumstances.

Playing on the more difficult Diablo Course Monday at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister – San Benito usually plays on the Gabilan Course – the Lady Balers carded a 209 on the par-37 front nine.

It’s the highest score through three rounds this season for San Benito, which previously carded scores of 201 and 183. But up against Gilroy and Monte Vista Christian in a three-team duel meet event, San Benito’s 209 was more than enough.

“It was good enough for today,” San Benito head coach Chris Branon said.

“We are usually on the Gabilan Course, but (today) was decent.”

San Benito’s 209 bested both Monte Vista Christian’s 220 and Gilroy’s 248.

The Lady Balers were originally scheduled to compete against only Monte Vista Christian on Monday. But after last Tuesday’s match with Gilroy was postponed, the three teams opted for a three-team event.

Monte Vista Christian, meanwhile, defeated Gilroy 220-248.

MVC’s Caroline Belmont medaled Monday’s round when she shot a 3-over 40 on the front nine.

San Benito’s Yumi Kimura led the Lady Balers with a 48, while Jordan Davies shot a 50.

LaShea Dailey carded a 55 and Nicole Rianda rounded out the scoring for San Benito with a 56.

Katie Moeller and Jenny Glosser compiled rounds of 56 and 60, respectively.

The Lady Balers will play at Monterey’s Del Monte Golf Course on Wednesday in a league meet against Santa Catalina.

Earlier this season, at the TCAL Jamboree at Ridgemark, Santa Catalina recorded the lowest score with a 181.

“If we can come out of there,” Branon said, “we’ll be pretty good.”
