Less than a week after finishing just two strokes behind powerhouse Stevenson at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister, the San Benito High girls golf team couldn’t keep pace with the Pirates on a rain-soaked Spyglass Hill Golf Course in Pebble Beach Wednesday.

After shooting 189 last Thursday, the Lady Balers carded a 209 Wednesday to finish 20 strokes behind Stevenson’s 189.

Pirate Deanna Lee medaled the round with a 43 on the par-36 front nine.

“I’m disappointed because we lost by two (strokes) at a home match, but that’s typical,” San Benito head coach Chris Branon said.

“We played lift-clean-and-place through the greens. It was wet, but it was playable.”

With the exception of Jordan Davies and Alexis Sanchez, each of whom carded matching 51s on Wednesday, the majority of the Balers finished in the high 50s.

Yumi Kimura recorded a 56, while both Nicole Rianda and Jenny Glosser each compiled a 58. Katie Moeller rounded out the team with a 59.

San Benito has just one meet remaining in the regular season. On Monday, the Lady Balers will compete against Salinas and Notre Dame at the Corral De Tierra Country Club in Salinas. Tee time is 3 p.m.

San Benito will then prepare for the Tri-County Athletic League Tournament. Branon will conduct a four-day tournament qualifier for TCALs beginning Tuesday, where 19 players will vie for just six varsity spots and a chance to represent San Benito at the year-end league tournament.

“They’re gonna be intense,” Branon said. “We’ve had a lot of internal competition, but this will be the most competition they’ve ever had.”
