Take your brain to the movies
There is a difference in the way I will work with a student who
comes to me and wants to become a competitive or tournament golfer
compared to the way that I work with a causal golfer. It is like
the way a mechanic will work on a racecar before a race vs. a car
that will only be driven on a freeway. If a racecar breaks down in
a race it’s all over.

There is a difference in the way I will work with a student who comes to me and wants to become a competitive or tournament golfer compared to the way that I work with a causal golfer. It is like the way a mechanic will work on a racecar before a race vs. a car that will only be driven on a freeway. If a racecar breaks down in a race it’s all over.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t a lot of similarities between the two. The main similarity is unlike a racecar vs. a streetcar – both types of golfers can play on the same golf course (except maybe Augusta National). Whichever golfer we’re talking about, if they feel confident standing over a shot their odds of pulling it off go way up. So here is something you can do to increase your odds.

Starting now or if you can vividly remember it write down the best shot you ever hit with each club in your bag. How the ball took off when you hit it, how it flew through the air, how it landed and most important, how it made you feel. They don’t need to be long, just simple and vivid. You want to have 14 videos of those shots. Build a small library in your head. Then every time you are going to use that club pull up that video and watch it before you swing. Pay attention to how it made you feel. Hopefully that will make lots of your shots blockbusters.

Just a reminder – any police officer, firefighter or active military personnel can play Eagle Ridge GC Monday through Thursday for half price, so please come see us. Eagle Ridge’s Kids Course is open every Sunday at 2 p.m. for kids 12 and under. Cost is $5 for all the holes you want to play. We provide clubs, balls and tees. Have any golf related questions? From rules to club fitting you can call me at 408-846-4531 or e-mail me at [email protected]. If you would like to read some of my past tips, you can do so at www.pinnaclenews.com. And don’t forget, if you’re not having fun playing golf call your local PGA or LPGA instructor, we will help. Golf is more fun when you’re improving. Don’t be afraid to be good.
