Hollister resident Guadalupe “Lupe” G. Valadez died suddenly Sunday, July 13, at Mabie Skilled Nursing Facility in Hollister at the age of 98.

Originally from Mexico, Valadez moved to California when she was 3 years old and to San Benito County in 1958. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She worked for several years at the Hollister Cannery and was a housekeeper for local families.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alvino Valadez; sons John, Raymond and Alvino Valadez; daughters Esther and Sally Valadez; and son-in-law Rosendo Arellano. Valadez is survived by daughters Lupe Arellano of Santa Clara, Alice Gonzalez of San Jose, Mary Gallego of San Jose and Hortencia Aguirre of Hollister; and son Frank Valadez. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon with the rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at the funeral home with a procession to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church beginning at 10 a.m. Graveside services and burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
