games
Pacific Grove – The Anzar boys basketball team failed to snap Pacific Grove’s winning streak Tuesday night, as the host Breakers defeated the Hawks 65-35 out on the Monterey Peninsula.

It’s Pacific Grove’s 24th straight win in the Mission Trail Athletic League, a streak that dates back to their 2005-06 campaign. Last year, the Breakers went 14-0 in the MTAL and have started this season 6-0.

Anzar falls to 1-5 in the MTAL, 6-14 overall.

“We did the best we could,” coach Ed Cecena said. “They were just too tough for us.”

The Hawks trailed 35-17 at halftime and 55-21 after three full quarters.

Anzar’s Ryan Waller was out of the lineup Tuesday. Said Cecena, “We were really shorthanded.”

Steven Mockabee led the Hawks with 12 points, including 4 of 5 from the line, and added three rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. Erik Olson had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Hawks.

The road doesn’t get much easier for Anzar, which will travel to Pebble Beach next Monday to take on Stevenson (13-5, 5-1 MTAL). Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

ANZ (35) – Indarose 2 0 0 4, Mockabee 4 0 4 12, Rania 2 0 1 5, Olson 4 1 0 11, Tovar 1 0 0 2, Merz 0 0 1 1.
