San Juan Bautista – Anzar didn’t allow Gonzales a single shot Wednesday and the Hawks girls soccer team rolled to a 6-0 victory over the Spartans.

Leah Jimenez and Olivia Austin both scored a pair of goals and Mackenzie Quaid added two “picture perfect” assists as Anzar rebounded from its 1-0 loss to Santa Catalina on Friday.

The Hawks started the game a bit sloppy in the first half, trying to overcome Gonzales’ stacked defensive backfield.

“That made it difficult to establish anything but possession,” Anzar coach Deric McLean said. “It wasn’t until about three-quarters of the way through the night that our girls remembered their training and we started looking like the dominant offensive team that we are, switching up the attack and penetrating with a purpose.”

Michelle Chatley and Alex Brown also scored for the Hawks, who improved to 7-4 overall and 7-2 in Mission Trail Athletic League play.

Anzar returns to action on the road against Soledad at 5:30pm Friday.
