San Juan Bautista – The victories just keep coming for the Anzar girls’ volleyball team. The Hawks swept visiting Greenfield in a Mission Trail Athletic League match Thursday night, winning 25-8, 25-17, 25-18.

Anzar (15-4) heads into the home stretch of its league season sporting an eight-match winning streak, the last two contests being lopsided, three-game affairs.

Senior outside hitter Emily Deleissegues led the way against Greenfield, registering 17 kills, 16 digs and six aces, while junior middle Christina Flores posted 10 kills and three blocks. Junior setter Danielle Bossler contributed 26 assists, and senior middle Jessica Staley recorded five kills and a pair of blocks.

After hosting Soledad on Monday, the Hawks (9-2 MTAL) travel to King City on Wednesday for their second crack at undefeated league-leader King City. Anzar suffered a sweep at home in the teams’ first match on Sep. 20.

With his team peaking, Hawks co-head coach Mike Dorney said a victory in Wednesday’s showdown would do wonders for the Hawks. “King City is the power of the league,” he said. “Anytime you beat the power, you have the feeling you can do anything against anybody. When we get to CCS … you build off of that.”

Second-place Anzar remains hopeful for a Division V postseason bid.
